MADISONVILLE, Ky. — A 10-month-old girl, Scottie Crowell, died Thursday after being found unresponsive inside a vehicle at Owensboro Health Multicare on South Main Street, according to the Madisonville Police Department.

Officers were dispatched to the medical facility at approximately 4:30 p.m. following a report of an unresponsive infant inside a vehicle. Officers and Medical Center Ambulance personnel immediately attempted lifesaving measures, but Scottie was pronounced deceased.

According to police, Scottie had been picked up by her grandmother, Dr. Stacey Fazenbaker, between approximately 6:45 and 7 a.m. Her mother, Sydni Crowell, had asked Fazenbaker to take the infant to daycare while she worked at Baptist Health Deaconess Hospital.

Police said Fazenbaker drove to Multicare, where she worked, after placing the child in her vehicle. Investigators said she entered the facility and left Scottie inside the vehicle.

The situation came to light later in the afternoon when Scottie’s father, Micah Crowell, went to pick her up from daycare at approximately 4 p.m. He reportedly discovered that she had not been taken there and contacted Sydni.

According to investigators, Sydni then contacted her mother. Police said that conversation caused Fazenbaker to realize that Scottie remained inside her vehicle.

Fazenbaker and coworkers went to the vehicle and removed the infant before emergency personnel continued lifesaving efforts.

Police said Fazenbaker consented to a blood test as part of the investigation.

Investigation Continues

An autopsy was ordered for Friday, with results pending. Authorities have not yet released a determination regarding the exact cause or manner of Scottie’s death.

The circumstances remain under investigation, and no conclusions should be drawn until authorities receive and review the autopsy and other investigative findings.

The death of a young child has left the Madisonville community facing a heartbreaking loss as Scottie’s family awaits further answers.

Scottie Crowell was only 10 months old. Her family, friends and community are now left grieving a life that ended far too soon.
