The Norton, Massachusetts, community is mourning the passing of Kent Taylor, a teacher, coach and friend whose influence extended well beyond the classroom and playing field.

Former students, colleagues and close friends are remembering Taylor for his kindness, humor, encouragement and genuine interest in the people around him. For many, he was not simply an educator or coach, but someone who remained a supportive presence long after their school years ended.

Remembering Kent Taylor

Taylor’s impact on former students continued years after graduation. Those who knew him recall a teacher who encouraged students to be themselves and took a sincere interest in their lives.

One former student, Cameron K. Morton, recalled a memorable sophomore-year performance in which he performed stand-up comedy while Taylor played Johnny Cash’s “Walk the Line” on the banjo. Taylor’s playful response afterward became a lasting memory.

Morton also remained connected with Taylor through Facebook, illustrating the relationships Taylor maintained long after his students had left school.

A Friend and Coach

Taylor also formed lasting friendships through coaching. One longtime friend and former assistant coach described their relationship as developing over approximately five years of working together before continuing as a friendship beyond coaching.

Their shared experiences included card games, restaurant gatherings, conversations and long bus rides filled with laughter. Taylor was remembered as loving, supportive and dependable.

A Teacher Who Made a Difference

Another former student described Taylor as the best teacher he had ever had, reflecting the lasting impression he made on those he taught.

For his students, Taylor’s influence was found in the everyday moments: encouragement, humor, conversations and the willingness to stay connected.

Family and Friends Mourn

Condolences are extended to Kaylene Taylor and the entire Taylor family, along with his former students, colleagues, coaching associates and friends.

Taylor’s legacy will live through the people he taught, coached and befriended.

Kent Taylor will be deeply missed in Norton and by everyone fortunate enough to have known him. His kindness, humor and lasting friendships will remain part of the memories shared by those whose lives he touched.
